Gone Fishin'
"I'll tell you why I can't find you
Every time I go out to your place...
You gone fishin'
Well there's a sign upon your door
Gone fishin'
You ain't workin' anymore."
- Louis Armstrong
Another quick escape to the country life...we are now getting the hang of fishing. The boys are growing more patient, Little loves to pick out the minnows, and Daddy can filet a fish! Ms. Pink even enjoyed her time on the dock watching us all chase after our bobbers.
This weekend's craft was a mixture of googly eyes and nature's treasures. After our scavenger hunt for bodies, arms, legs, noses, and lips...we sat down and created some great googly eyed creatures. Then I got carried away and placed faces on the neighboring cactus, trees, etc. The boys loved it and hope the smiles are there to greet us next trip. We also enjoyed cans and cans of silly string, glow sticks, exploring in the woods, cruising around in the jeep, and driving Daddy's truck. Ms. Pink even got brave and took 3 steps!

Come Fly With Me
"Come fly with me,
let's fly,
let's fly away.
If you can use some exotic booze.
There's a bar in far Bombay.
Come fly with me,
let's fly,
let's fly away."
- Frank Sinatra
Ever since the old Founders' Plaza closed almost 2 years ago, we have been anticipating this opening day of the new one. Now located on the NW corner of DFW airport, Founders' Plaza offers the BEST place to enjoy any beautiful day. The opening ceremony began at 10:00 this morning. A parade filled with horses, drill teams, a marching band, police, a fire truck, and other DFW airport VIP circled the plaza's street as we sat front row, curb side to witness. Carly Patterson sang the National Anthem as the flags were raised and we even had a fly by while 2 fire trucks sprayed their hoses in the distance. It all concluded with a free lunch of hot dogs and apple pie...truly American!
Founders Plaza - By The Numbers
3 - Shaded pavilions
4 - Panoramic view finders
6 - Acres of park land - double the previous site
6 - Picnic areas
24 - Hours of round-the-clock security
30 - Parking spaces
278,372 - Approximate number of aircraft to takeoff or land over in a single year near the site
Over the years, Founders Plaza has also earned a soft spot in the hearts of North Texans as well as made multiple "Best Of" lists compiled by community media. The Fort Worth Weekly voted Founders Plaza "Best Place to Watch a Sunset" in 2004. The Dallas Observer voted Founders Plaza Best of 2003 "Best Free Kids Outing." And the former location was even recognized as "Best Place to Make Out" in 2000 by the Dallas / Arlington Morning News.

Have You Forgotten
"Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
Too see your homeland under fire and her people blown away.
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going through a living hell..."
- Darryl Worley
We pass the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial on our way to preschool and church each week. After pick up today I decided to show the boys the memorial and explain to them in simple terms what it means. Of course there were a lot of questions but they now know why all the flags are flown at half staff. Even at the youngest of age...we should never forget!

Back to School Again
"Spendin' my vacation in the summer sun.
Gettin' lots of action havin' lots of fun.
Scorin' like a bandit 'til the bubble burst
Suddenly it got to be September first.
Woe is me - all summer long I was happy and free.
Save my soul the board of education took away my parole.
I gotta go back, back, back to school again."
- Grease 2
YES! The boys are back in preschool and I can get organized again. Yesterday was their first full day and I managed to complete 4 loads of laundry, 4 errands, and 4 miles in my 9-2 window. Ms. Pink was missing them though. She would push her walker room to room and wonder why it was so quiet. She did enjoy the 1-on-1 time together as we played quite a bit on the floor. My favorite part about school resuming is not the days, but the evenings. Everyone is so tired bedtime comes early without complaints. I will admit it too, I could not even stay awake for Sen. McCain's speech (yes, that was at 9:00)!
We started off this morning by making stepping stones for us. We have made each grandma one and now the boys wanted one for themselves. They had a blast placing their own jewels on the cement.

WKRP In Cincinnati
"Baby, if you've ever wondered,
Wondered, whatever became of me.
I'm livin' on the air in Cincinnati,
Cincinnati, WKRP."
SUCCESSFUL...first family vacation for this party of 5 and Ms. Pink did great with her in flight experience. We headed to Ohio for a fabulous 5 day weekend. First stop was the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. What a concept to combine the 2. While walking around the zoo, paths are lined with butterfly gardens, roaming peacocks, and flowers of many colors. We were able to visit all the habitats before the evening showers moved in. On Sunday we drove downtown again to see the Duke Energy Children's Museum. WOW...Kid's Town, Little Sprouts Farm, Energy Zone, and the Woods (A three-story structure has hollow-log climbing structures, rope bridges, a horizontal climbing wall as well as areas for discovering fossils and the animals that live in the nooks and crannies of the woods.) We did as much we could in our 2 hour window.
Our visit was planned around the third Annual Clam and Lobster Bake. We gathered with over 20 other family members we have not seen in over 4 years. The food was delicious but we could not get the boys to try the signature dishes. They did enjoy some Beer Butt Chicken and great mail order Texas BBQ.
Of course the highlight of the long weekend was spending time with Grandpa and Grandma. Between the kisses, hugs, and foot raspberries, we found time to make a stepping stone for the garden, go fishing at the neighborhood pond, and play in their basement. Their cool mornings have us now itching for fall weather as we wake up back in Texas for yet another HOT summer day. Until we see them again before Christmas...WE MISS YOU!
