Oklahoma Hills
"Many a month has come and gone
Since I wandered from my home
In those Oklahoma hills where I was born.
Many a page of life has turned,
Many a lesson I have learned,
While I feel like in those hills I still belong."
- Hank Thompson
Okay, I was not born in Oklahoma but my mother and father were...so I still consider it part of my roots. We just spent the weekend in Falconhead, Oklahoma for a family reunion with my maternal grandmother's relatives. Just on the other side of the Texas-Oklahoma line, this small community seems to attract retirees but also offers campsites and small hotel rooms for a quick escape. They have a golf course, swimming pool, and restaurant to make any weekend pass quickly.
It was nice to spend the day with many relatives that I have not seen in years and introduce them all to our kids. We were even invited to the Love County Commissioner's Catfish and Calf-fry fundraiser. I am sure the locals were quite surprised to see an additional 50 guests at the dinner! The best part of the weekend is that my mom and I volunteered to host next year's reunion in Texas. This should be fun planning!

Slide
"I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything at all
So why don't you slide
Yeah we're gonna let it, slide."
- Goo Goo Dolls
Only in Texas can your own pool in the backyard get too hot to swim! Our thermometer is currently reading over 90 degrees, so I dropped Ms. Pink off at grandma's house and took the boys to Bedford Splash. We arrived as soon as the doors opened at noon and less than 1 hour later, so did 3 different day camps. What began as a pleasant day quickly became bombarded with kids of all ages in orange, blue and green t-shirts.
Despite the "less mannered" patrons at the pool, we still had a great time. The boys enjoyed their independence in the water without their life jackets. After 2 1/2 hours of intense swimming, we were all ready to head back home for some snacks and air conditioner!

Tree House
"Seasons change and I have found you.
Looks like you've been here a long time.
Looks like you are here to stay
And I reason that that's O.K.
When though, when will you be leaving.
You're way up in the trees.
Or afloat on the seas...
Tree house, your mind is like a tree house.
I climb up the shaky ladder."
- Buffalo Tom
We have been laying low all week since Little is now 5 days post-op from his T&A. In between rounds of pain medications, antibiotics, snuggle time, cartoons, frequent naps, and tears we have managed to erect a hand-me-down fort in our back yard. With a little bit of elbow grease, a new tarp, and fresh paint the tree house (minus the tree) is as good as new. Ms. Pink loves her swing as a weeping willow dances above and the boys can't believe they have their own park in our back yard. The best part is that the entire structure stays shaded well past lunch in this HOT Texas sun.
